We are 5 years old!
Now. Look how we've grown!
We considered going away together for a night/weekend for our anniversary, and it would have been great, but in the end we decided against it. Max has been in the throes of teething for a few weeks and we wouldn't wish his current night-time routine on anyone! Tyler just so happened to have the day off. His whole team was off since they had just finished their quarter audit, so it worked out that he didn't have to use a vacation day. So we had what we considered to be the perfect day: being together, going to the Temple, and good food. That's all we need!
We started the day off with donuts, because that's how you start off the best days.
She just nibbles off the top of the donuts, of course.
Max slept the whole time. Angel baby.
She has issues with having messy hands!
After a quick (though not as quick as I'd planned) visiting teaching appointment, we dropped the kids off to play with Gigi and headed to the temple. It was so great to be there and to remember being in the temple 5 years ago together. We're so thankful to have been sealed there, and that we can be together forever.
We stopped in at home so I could feed Max and then we left again, this time headed for City Center for dinner at McCormick and Schmick's! It was fancy shmancy compared to our usual Panda Express or other simple date - thank goodness we had a gift card and it was restaurant week, where they have a special discounted menu. Part of the proceeds go to the Houston Food Bank too, so that's cool. The hostess asked why we were so dressed up (still in the clothes we wore to the temple) and we said it was our anniversary. She said, "Oh that's great! 1st, 2nd?" And couldn't believe when I responded that it was our 5th. She said, "Wow! I don't even have a ring yet! But that's okay, I'm just 21." It was a funny exchange.
Excuse the bad picture - it was really dark in there!
The food was great. We each had a yummy salad (apple salad for me and kobe beef salad for Tyler), I had chicken and polenta (which actually neither of us cared for) and Tyler had beef medallions, shrimp, and potatoes, but the real star was the dessert. When we read the dessert menu a few days ago we both started salivating, and it did not disappoint. Molten lava chocolate cake with ice cream and Heath bar bits on top. I hope no one saw us licking our plates!
After dinner we walked around City Center for a few minutes and then went to pick up the kiddos. Thanks to Gigi for watching them basically all day! It was so nice to get away and we didn't have to worry about them one bit. They had a great time playing with Gigi. We took the kids home and got them to bed, and then we finally watched Divergent. Loved it!
It was a great day. At different points in the day we'd talk about what we were doing at that moment 5 years ago. It was fun to re-live it a little. I feel so lucky to have this man as my husband! I love the life we've built together. Happy Anniversary, my love!
