Master bathroom fix-up

While I was in painting mode, I decided to go ahead and do the same treatments to our bathroom. The only thing that I had to buy in addition to what I bought for the other bathroom was a little more hardware. The gallon of paint more than covered all the walls, and the quart of paint for the cabinets was close but still enough! Here is a before. The walls were a tan-ish color and the cabinets an olive-ish green that I didn’t love. That and my stuff had just kind of taken over haha.

This was after painting the walls and the vanity base. Before organizing and getting rid of stuff, clearly!

Much better! I pared everything down to actually fit in the vanity. 

I forgot to address the little medicine cabinets in each room in all of this. I can’t decide if I want to keep it white or paint them blue like the lower cabinets, so for now they stay the same. Fun projects!

Bathroom fix-up

The kids bathroom was looking a little rough. I hadn’t given this room any attention as far as decorating. But the paint on the cabinets was starting to peel off and the kids broke the face of a drawer off, so it was time to fix some things up! Well, after a few more months of living with it like this:

I started by peeling off the paint. Not even sure it was paint at this point, it came off SO easily. Seriously, 2 minutes for the whole thing.

Figured out how to fix the drawer. Thanks YouTube! 

Went with Agreeable Gray for the walls, and I even had a willing helper!

After paint.

Then came painting the cabinets! I’d never painted cabinets before and I was really nervous. For my own memory, I used Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer first, then a Behr cabinet paint in the color Naval. 

Can I just say how much I love the color? It looks so dark in this picture but it really is just the perfect navy to me. Exactly what I wanted.

The gray made the trim and door look SO yellow, so that had to happen next. It’s just crazy to me how things yellow over time.

I’d done everything by myself up to this point, but didn’t have the tools I needed to finish the job! Mom to the rescue. She came over with her drill and helped me install hardware.

We also made a little towel rack (that the kids can reach themselves, hallelujah!) and I decided to keep up the black and white kids in the bath pics. 

Found a cute shower curtain on Amazon and that was that! Well, except for this over-the-toilet area. Still haven’t figured out what I want to do there, and needed to take a break from buying things haha.

A week without Dad

Tyler doesn't have to travel very much. This is a huge blessing, until he actually does travel and I'm not great at being without him. It always turns out fine but requires a lot of mental pep talks to myself haha. Anyway, he went to California a couple weeks ago and we tried to stay busy.

We can do this!

2 of the women I visit teach are having babies this summer (and my companion just had one! Babies galore). We get to babysit for doctor's appointments sometimes. 

On his last date with Dad, Max kept saying he wanted a burger. Correction: he wanted a booger, but we all knew he meant burger! So when Sharon told me kids meals are $1.99 after 4pm at the new Wendy's just down the road from us, we decided to make a date of it with our kids since both of our husbands were out of town. Max got his "booger" and newsflash, prefers nuggets. But we sure had fun with our friends/cousins.

Until disaster struck. Can you spot it??

Thank goodness for friends who teach you how to build the kids meal toys!

I also whipped out my mom's sewing machine while Tyler was gone. I was sewing for several nights because I'm super slow, but eventually had some fun results. One of Tyler's old shirts had holes along the collar, so I turned it into a little dress for Millie! I just laid down one of her dresses as a pattern and made up the bell sleeve. It turned out a bit small but I made her wear it to church that Sunday anyway haha.

Watering the yard every evening. Someday we'll fix our sprinkler system, but for now we enjoy getting outside and sometimes getting wet before bed.

One of the big benefits of bottle feedings is that big sisters can help!

Little things

I put some chicken wire in this frame I use for banners and Christmas cards. Can't wait to fill it up with family and friends!

Millie loves to cover the ottoman with books and make them fit perfectly. It's like her own game of Tetris or something. So funny.

Millie has seen me crocheting a lot lately for Christmas gifts. The other day she said, "Why don't you ever make me something?" Pack up Mom, you're going on a guilt trip!! It was raining the next morning so instead of running I whipped up a hat for her with colors she chose. She insisted on these flowers, which I'd made for other hats but had made mistakes on. Oh well, she likes it!!

Poor Max finally caught the cold the rest of us had and was falling asleep everywhere for a few days.

Operation: Finish Projects

The irony about the title of this post is that it has been sitting in my drafts since October! Love it.

I have a way of getting super-excited about stuff. I love the beginning of things. I set lots of goals and start many projects, but my problem is follow-through! Time to sell/donate what I don't use or need, finish things I've started, and organize the rest. 

First up was this wreath. I saw one like it at Target (this was a year ago) and decided instead of paying $20 for it I'd make one! Finally, 7 months later, I finished it. Just in time to... store it for next year.

Mom helped me finish this skirt I started in July. It's so cute and has an exposed zipper in the back that I really like. 

I saw this garland on Pinterest and had all the paper set aside to do it while with my family in Lufkin for Thanksgiving last year! It was finally up at Christmas this year.

I've wanted to make curtains for the family room and turn the coffee table to an ottoman for a long time, and I finally did it! But definitely not by myself. Enter my expert-at-everything mother!

And my daughter who wanted to help. She even marked on the curtains for me! So helpful! Sense my sarcasm?? Luckily it was pencil and it erased pretty easily. I learned my lesson and gave her a piece of scrap fabric to do whatever she wanted to do.

Doing the grommets was my favorite part. Really easy with a nice result!

I'm considering adding two more panels, but we'll see how this is for a little while.

Turning this coffee table into an ottoman will get its own post, because I took a lot of pictures of the process!

It feels good to get some things actually finished!
