In October I got to go to New York City with my mom and sisters for a girls weekend! Hazel tagged along too. Mom, Stephanie, Lauren, and I flew there on Thursday on the same flight.
I borrowed the carrier from a friend and Hazel took really well to it. It was so cute to see her all cozy and asleep in there.
She slept a good portion of the flight there.

We got there and found Kim! We waited for a bus to take us to a subway station for a long time, but got to talk to some very nice police officers while we waited. The bus was free and therefore VERY crowded. People were so nice to give up their seats for me since I had Hazel. In fact, the most expletives I’ve ever heard put together were from one woman we encountered, telling everyone around us what she would do if anyone messed with Hazel. It was hilarious.

It was a little chilly but that turned out to be perfect - carrying Hazel around everywhere was hot for both of us!
Something I don’t have any pictures of but wanted to remember was that we ate at a yummy, family-style restaurant right near Times Square that was recommended to us by one of the nice police officers we were talking to at the airport. It was delicious and a fun way to start out the trip! We rented an Airbnb in Union City, NJ. That turned out to be more of a trek than we anticipated, especially that first night, but we made it.

Friday morning we headed into the city and then went straight down to Battery Park. Lady Liberty sure looked nice and it was a beautiful day!
As we were walking around the parks I kept thinking about a book the kids and I had checked out from the library a while back, called “A Green Place To Be.” It’s about the history of Central Park specifically but was just such a good reminder of the importance and power of nature. A few people worked hard to make sure some of that was preserved in this big city! It was cool to see after reading the book.
A funny part of this trip was having to stop and feed Hazel every so often. Sometimes it was inconvenient, but other times it gave me a chance to stop and enjoy where we were. And, let’s be honest, give my feet a break!

We ate at a delicious place called Eataly for lunch. Super yummy pizza. We were overlooking the 9/11 Memorial which was beautiful. After eating we went to the 9/11 museum.

So fun walking the city streets with these ladies! I forgot to mention that our cousin Shirley joined us on Friday since she only lives a couple hours away. It was so fun to see her too!

Trinity Church was under construction so we couldn’t go inside, but we enjoyed seeing it from outside.

We didn’t want to spend the time or money to go up to the top, but we did go in the lobby and I couldn’t stop thinking of Sleepless in Seattle. “Jonah!”
Hazel sure didn’t mind all the attention! Not a bad gig being an only child around several moms for a few days.

This is a terrible picture but each day on the bus between the city and our Airbnb we went through the Lincoln Tunnel, which made me think of Elf every single time. Made me smile every single time too.
I somehow didn’t manage to capture any in pictures but there were pumpkins all over the landscaping in Rockefeller Plaza and it was really cute.

It was beautiful inside and out. We enjoyed it for a few minutes while I fed Hazel.
Ate lunch at Jacob’s Pickles, which had been recommended by several people and definitely lived up to the hype!
Even better that we enjoyed it sitting on the grass in Central Park on a beautiful day.
Belvedere Castle was under construction when Tyler and I were there a couple years ago so it was fun to see it this time.
We even went up in it and enjoyed the beautiful view.
We got some Levain cookies too! Broke them up so we could all try all the different flavors. They don’t look as appetizing all in a heap like that, but you know they were delicious!
It was a seriously beautiful day in a seriously beautiful place.
We also walked the High Line!
As we walked we looked at the prices of some of the apartments we were seeing on Zillow, which was insane.

Chelsea Market. We ate at Los Tacos No 1 there and it was delicious, again! The trip was a great mix of showing everyone the places Tyler and I had been together and doing things we hadn’t done before.

Sunday morning we left our Airbnb for the last time and headed into the city. Went to church at the temple, which was really cool. Hazel was needing a nap but didn’t give in for a long time.

These last pictures are all very out of order. We ate at another yummy pizza place for lunch (lots of Italian food this trip!) and enjoyed Central Park one last time, where Hazel had an epic blowout. Seriously, down to her toes. That last day was honestly rough with Hazel. She had kind of had enough of the carrier and being held all the time, wasn’t sleeping great anymore. It was definitely time to go home.
Tried out Milk Bar’s ice cream before heading to the airport. Honestly not my favorite but a great concept for cereal lovers!

Hazel cried for a good portion of the flight home. Oh the joys of flying with babies. Luckily probably 99% of the people on the plane were watching movies and no one even looked up, so I don’t think she bothered anyone.
