Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival 2015

We were so excited for the festival this year. The weather was supposed to be not great, but it turned out to be a beautiful day, and it wasn't too warm until we were about to leave. Grammy was so sweet and got us a few pieces of art as well as a cool wind chime for our back porch! I love having unique art in our home and I love having reminders of our fun times with Grammy on our walls. Millie was a little bit disappointed that the "monkey wearing a diaper" wasn't there this year. Unfortunately we found out that the monkey passed away! Haven't broken the news to Millie. Maybe next year. She was easily distracted by all the "art stuff" as she put it.

Other highlights: kid crafts, face painting, good music, getting our picture taken for a newspaper, yummy food, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and Tyler winning a flash drive. It was a pretty fantastic day!

Fairy crown and a cat nose and whiskers.

Max was less than thrilled about his hat.

We had fun watching a high school aerial dance team perform. Pretty impressive!

The view of a small portion of the festival from Grammy's window.

No visit to Grammy's is complete without visiting the fish!

Thanks for a great day, Grammy!

26 things to do while I'm 26 - update

I'm not sure I will remember if I wait until the end of the year to see how I'm doing on this list!

1. Go to the zoo
2. Blue Bell fun run - that didn't work out, but I'm doing a different 5k in May
3. Decorate Master bedroom - progress! We bought two Ikea Rast dressers to use as nightstands and I painted them black. Next up is to get something on our walls, and maybe a headboard and new comforter. I might be dreaming here.
4. Take a class/learn a new skill or hobby - painting! I went to a RS activity where a class was taught and I've done a few little paintings on my own since then. I'm definitely not good, but I'm learning and its fun.

5. Host a party - I'm going to go ahead and count Millie's and Max's birthday gatherings for this!
6. Read the Book of Mormon - currently in Mosiah.
7. Sew 4 items of clothing - 1 down (Easter dress), 3 to go.
8. Go to the beach
9. Complete 72-hr kits
10-14. Read _____ - I wanted to have specific books in mind for these, but at this point I'll just be happy to read a few books at all! I have read 2 so far, but don't bother asking me which ones. Your guess is as good as mine.
15. Read Preach My Gospel
 16. Go to the temple 12 times - We've been 2 times, so we have some catching up to do! Busy season got the best of us on this one.
17. Try a new workout
18. Make/makeover 1 piece of furniture - nightstands! Thanks Ikea! Someday I'll buy pretty drawer pulls. I intentionally did not paint these ones so that they would bug me enough to actually do it. It is so nice to have the same nightstand - Tyler had plastic drawers and I had that $7 Ikea table previously. This is SO much better.

19. Make fish at home
20. 12 Dates w/Tyler - we've done 3 so far!
21. Go to a concert or play
22. Go somewhere I've never been - we'll go ahead and count Top Golf for that! Fun times.
23. Print both kids' baby books - I printed Millie's, but now I need to make and print Max's.
24. Get Honor Bee award and buy new medallion
25. Go one month without sugar - done! March was not my favorite month, for a few reasons, but no sugar certainly contributed.
26. Decorate living room - I put up a bunch of pictures on the big wall, not sure what else I want to do in there yet. But every little thing helps a ton!

Little things

I felt so sorry for Max at his 12 month checkup - blood draw and 4 shots! It was a rough day.

But Millie was happy to tag along.

Millie loves to throw parties. She declares, "Mom! It's your birthday! You'd better come - I made you a cake!" and has a "lovely party" all ready. She has treats but always insists that we eat something healthy first. Wish this translated to her real eating habits.

Not happy to leave the park. She kept running a bit ahead and then spreading her arms to try to stop me from getting past her.

New phone for me! Pretty exciting! And a pretty darn cute case too.

Always dunking.

Messy Max

First time drawing with calk. I have been putting it off for my own sake but he had so much fun!

I have been painting some nightstands for Tyler and I, and I got out a 2x4 and some paint so Millie could go to town painting too, but not on the furniture. (We do our painting during Max's naps) I apparently didn't put the bowl of paint high enough! It got all over his forehead because he tried to stick his head in the bowl to lick the paint. Lovely. Thank goodness his head is so big that he only got his forehead in! I love this messy boy.

Lazy mornings

As the weather gets warmer, we have to be careful about when we're outside. We don't last very long in the 3:00 heat! One of my favorite times to go outside (when we're having an at-home day) is in the morning, right after breakfast. We stay in our jammies a little longer than normal and I get to make my to-do list as the kids wander around the backyard. Life has gotten a little crazier for me lately so I'm trying to make our days calm and simple.

Playing with shadows

I didn't anticipate Max being almost just as able to ride the scooter as Millie is... they fight over this thing all the time!

First haircut

I'd been putting this off for a long time. Max has had a mullet for a couple of months, but I just couldn't cut it! I knew he would look so old and I wasn't ready for that yet. He had some shots at his checkup that gave him a fever off and on for a few days. One day he woke up drenched in sweat after his fever broke. His long hair was matted to his head and I decided we had to cut it right then! So we went outside and did it. Tyler held him while I used our little clippers to cut his hair. Love this handsome boy.

Before

After!

Millie kept saying, "Oh poor Max! I'm so sorry you got your hair cut!" as if it hurt or something. It was so funny.

We just couldn't stop staring at him for a few days. He looks so handsome (in my totally unbiased opinion)!

Spring break, part 2

We were planning on having Monday and Tuesday together before Tyler had to go back to work, but he ended up having a training downtown on Tuesday. So we made the most of Monday and got lots of little errands done. We had some fun too!

This was Millie's list of things to do, which she dictated to me. I think we did everything but go fishing!

Planning out how to use Tyler's vacation days over the next year.

We're excited for Tyler's next break! Is it May yet??
