Halloween fun

I can't believe October is already halfway over!

I decided this year I want to have a coordinated family costume. I figure we can only require this for so long - next year I'm sure both kids will want to choose their own costumes! So we are going with Little Red Riding Hood.

My mom made the hood and I made the skirt.

Max was a little more complicated. Enter Pinterest! And Hobby Lobby. Who knew they sell fur?? I was planning to use felt but the fur was just too good.

Plot twist: he HATES it.

Eyeing it from afar

Since then we do a little therapy every so often. We put on the costume, look in the mirror, talk about how cool it is, etc. I am determined!!

Last week for FHE we carved pumpkins! This tradition will be much more fun when the kids actually help. But we had fun. First time in our adult life to do this, not sure why we waited so long!!

(I would not touch that stuff if you paid me. Hence the gloves.)

Millie's pumpkin needed a crown!

Our pumpkin family

Guess we should have waited til we were a bit closer to Halloween. This humidity is crazy! Our pumpkins a week later:

Zoo day

We decided to go to the free zoo afternoon again, hoping for cooler weather this time. No such luck! But we had Melanie and her boys Mason and Sam with us this time so that was fun. Max loved everything we saw and Millie begged to see the snakes the whole time. What the??? It was a great day!

We had to park a mile away from the zoo at the Children's Museum, but luckily Mel showed me a better way to get back. We let the kids run around in the mini-Washington DC and they had so much fun. Hermann Park is awesome!

Sam and Mason wanted to be part of the picture. Love it!

Sam Houston!

We stopped by Monka's before heading home. It was a great day!

Little things

Ready for the football game!

Gigi gave us a big coloring book maybe 2 years ago and Millie still loves it.

She falls asleep reading almost every night. Love her.

A rare moment of sharing and nicely playing.

Millie was my bed buddy a couple times while Tyler was away.

Max does this every time we are at the library!

They finally put visitor parking at the library! Our library is part of a college campus so there are never spots available. It was ridiculous.

Max recently grew out of his old tennis shoes and wasn't too sure about the new pair.

Tyler got to video chat with the kids one time while he was away for almost 2 weeks. He worked long hours and was never off before they were asleep! So this was a treat for everyone.

I love her handwriting! She can do her and Max's name without help, though sometimes they're backwards. So funny.

Millie always wants to be the first one at preschool and races me there every day! I'm so glad she loves it so much!

General Conference weekend, Oct. 2015 edition

We were sad that Tyler wasn't with us for conference weekend, but we enjoyed being with Heidi, James, Gigi, and Poppy. We saw Nana and Botz on Sunday too. It was neat to see three new Apostles called and to hear so many great messages.

Both kids slept during both afternoon sessions of conference!! It was so great.

Conference weekend is the best!

Playing outside

It is quite bearable outside these days (when you're in the shade), so when we're going out we spend our mornings in the front yard and our evenings in the back yard. The kids love moving their bikes back and forth through the house, they think it's so funny to have a bike inside!

Hooray for "fall!"

Projects

Tyler has been out of town for over a week (not counting the 16 hours he was home last Sunday), so I've been tackling a few projects while he is gone.

First up, re-caulking the shower. So gross.

Working on the Weston's Christmas blanket. I love the colors! I'm just over halfway done, which is pretty exciting.

Gretchen shared this book with me and I really really loved it! Read this if you haven't! Such a sad and sweet story. I was ugly crying at parts.

Millie's Halloween costume is done! My mom made the "cloak" as Millie calls it and I made a circle skirt to wear under. Next up is Max's big bad wolf costume!

One of my goals for this year was to get our 72-hr kits finally finished and up to date. I've known exactly what we needed for a long time but I've never just gotten it done. I ordered a bunch of stuff online and made a big mess in my room for a few nights getting it all organized. Cost be darned, it's finally finished! Millie prayed a couple times that we would have a big storm so we could use our "emergency kits." I am not praying for that, but I am relieved they are ready just in case.

I've been doing a little shopping and found this adorable dress at Old Navy that I think every person should own. It hits below the knee, it doesn't need any camisole underneath or sweater over, and it's super comfortable! Score!
