Blast from the past

Recently, a little strip of shops opened up across the street from our neighborhood. We watched closely to see what would be there as each business came in- an insurance company, a dentist, a donut shop, Subway, and a Smoothie King, among others. The most unexpected place was a dojo- Young Brothers Tae Kwon Do, to be exact. My neighbor texted me recently and said she had talked to her son's instructor there and he knew Tyler! Sure enough, it was Tyler's Tae Kwon Do instructor growing up, Master McCluskey. We stopped by on Friday to see him and introduce the kids, since we hadn't seen him since our open house right after we got married. He was so sweet and couldn't believe Tyler has two kids. He showed us that he still has the picture of Tyler's group on the wall- it was fun to find Tyler in the group! I wish I could have seen him back in those days. I forgot to get a picture of them together, so I made Tyler smile with Master McCluskey in the background teaching! I loved hearing Master McCluskey go on and on about how great Tyler was at Tae Kwon Do (he is a third degree black belt! Watch out!) and how much he enjoyed having Tyler as a student. Millie loved watching the kids too- maybe Master McCluskey will have the next generation of Juergens in his class!

Got it!

Don't mind the spit up all over his shirt! I just love
Max's sweet smile.

Summer Bucket List

We are so excited for summer! Tyler has a lot of vacation/paternity leave he has to use over the next few months, so we plan to live it up. We have the tendency to want to do lots of fun things and then not really do them when it comes down to it. So we're trying to be better and schedule things ahead of time so we're not wondering what we should do each day. We have a calendar for each month of the summer up on our fridge and we're writing things in specific days so we can plan for them! Here's what we plan to do:

1. Houston Zoo
2. Children's Museum
3. Downtown Aquarium
4. Zube Park trains
5. Blue Bell factory tour
6. Sno cones at Bahama Bucks
7. Make s'mores
8. Day at the Woodlands w/Grammy
9. Beach day/Galveston
10. Drive-in movie
11. San Antonio trip for our anniversary
12. 5k race
13. Go fishing
14. Astros game
15. Jellystone Park

Then of course there's lots of parks and swimming- those will happen so often that I didn't give them a place on our list.

It's going to be a great summer!

Pizza on the patio

We were recently given some patio furniture. Thanks, Gigi and Poppy! As fun as the camping chairs were, we love having a table and nicer chairs that even rock. The backyard is shaded in the evenings so it feels great even when it's warm. We had our first dinner outside on Sunday and it was a perfect evening for it! We're looking forward to many more meals out there.

Then it (of course) evolved into a Disney jam session, dancing and all. It's impossible to say no when she comes up and grabs your hand, pulling and saying, "Dance wif me!"

More Millie funnies

I've recently started working out again. I pulled out the post-natal boot camp disc on this Pregnancy Fitness set one day and Millie laughed as I did some of it. Ever since then she pulls it out and asks to watch the "Mommy movie."

First French braids! I've been waiting a long time for her hair to be long enough.

"See my shadow, Mommy? It's dancing crazy!" She has been obsessed with shadows lately- loving the during the day and fearing them at night.

We went to the church on Saturday night so Tyler could get some clerk stuff done and Millie started "typing" on this calculator, saying "I'm working just like Daddy!"

She recently likes to play/watch me play "the black monkey chasing the boy" game (Temple Run) or "the birdie game" (Angry Birds). She's pretty terrible at them because it's really rare that she even sees the iPad, but she likes it.

Capturing faces

I was trying to catch him smiling... it evolved from this

to this

to this!

Life is just hard sometimes, ya know? Hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

Things that have nothing to do with kids

Millie and Max kind of dominate this blog, and rightfully so! They're the cutest. Here are some things going on outside of them:

Before and after a little organizing in our bathroom closet

Read this in 2 days and can't wait to see the movie!

Our poor hibiscus bushes froze this winter! So they had to come out.

I felt so funny grabbing the twine from my craft stash to tie up these branches.

Cleaning out the craft closet. Think we have enough tissue paper?

Our youth activity last week was a Texas snowball fight! They had tons of fun and I want to remember it for the future. We cut up old nylons and filled them up with flour, tying both ends to make a little ball. The flour stayed in longer than we expected and they had fun for a long time! Messy fun.

My first run since Max's birth! Between being reeeeeaalllly out of shape and pushing the double stroller it was very slow, but it felt great!

I had a cyst in my finger drained yesterday. It was the size of 2 peas! I'm hoping it doesn't come back. It's nice to have met our insurance deductible- we're trying to fit in little things like this before our plan starts over in July!

Sibling love

Millie loves to talk to Max when he has tummy time! He is getting more interactive all the time and loves to look at her. I have a feeling they're going to be the best of friends!

Tyler: 27

Tyler's birthday fell on Mother's Day this year! Poor guy. Not that he's the kind of guy who likes a whole day to be about him-- it just meant that we were both trying to make the day special for the other person. "I will make you breakfast." "No, I will make you breakfast!" You get it.

We did some celebrating on Saturday. It was definitely our first date since Max was born, and who knows how long before that! My parents watched the kids while we went to the temple and Olive Garden. It was so nice to get away and be together! I'd missed my man.

We came home to find Millie giving Cinderella a shower. Monka always teaches her fun things!

On Sunday I woke up later than I'd planned and was rushing to get Tyler's birthday cake made and to get myself and the kids ready for church. When Millie got up we brought Tyler his present- a blue sport coat with gold buttons! He looks really handsome in it but it's a tad big, hopefully we will exchange it tonight.

Monka helped Millie make a sign for Daddy on Saturday

Tyler couldn't decide between a yellow cake and a chocolate cake, so I tried my hand at a layer cake and did one of each! It didn't turn out pretty so I didn't take a picture but it was yummy anyway. It's hard to mess up a cake mix. Tyler chose pink frosting because Millie would like it and it'd be a little more Mother's Day friendly.

Taste-testing the frosting... at 8 am. Lovely!
We got to talk with Tim before church too! He is doing so well and seems so happy. It's so great to be able to see him and all my other siblings at once.

Trying to show Uncle Tim her necklace
After church we went to Gigi and Poppy's for lunch. Nana, Botz, Grammy, Mom, Dad, Sarah, and of course Heidi and James were there too! It was a party. We got to talk with AJ too and it was so great. He is so happy and excited to be where he is! Both our missionary brothers got to see Max. There's just such a special Spirit around when we get to talk to these boys! We miss them tons but are so proud of them.

Then we switched to birthday mode. Tyler opened gifts and we had cake and ice cream. Max had an awesome blowout- it's just not Mother's Day without one! We went home and spent the evening relaxing.

The "who can get Max to smile?" game. I love this picture.

Tyler is the best husband and dad and we love him so! Happy happy birthday!!
